Travel across the globe to Kyoto, Japan, the heart of traditional Japanese culture. Once the ancient capital of Japan, both locals and foreigners flock to Kyoto to visit the breathtaking shrines, temples, and gardens, stroll through historic neighborhoods, and take part in unique rituals.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

Virtual Cooking Class:

Learn how to cook a homemade Kyoto meal with Chef Aya Igano (/eatkyoto) who loves teaching authentic Japanese cooking. Aya has a very popular ramen making class that she teaches at Eat Kyoto in the historic Gion district. Together, you will be making 3 dishes using very unique techniques: Cucumber Salad, Miso Udon with handmade noodles (you will be doing this the traditional way!), and Ginger Chicken. Your box will include special ingredients you’ll cook with, printed recipe cards, and a shopping list for fresh ingredients.

Virtual Japanese Tea Ceremony:

Experience a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and learn how to prepare and drink a delicious bowl of matcha tea with Tea Expert, Atsuko Mori (@camellia.kyoto). Atsuko is a tea instructor in Kyoto who has been practicing tea ceremonies for over 20 years. She opened her own tea house, Camellia Tea Ceremony, 7 years ago with the goal of creating a bridge between Japan and the rest of the world. Atsuko will welcome you with a brief introduction to the history and culture of tea in Japan. Then, she will perform the tea ceremony and will show you how to prepare and enjoy your matcha tea.  We've partnered with tea farmers in Wazuka, Kyoto to bring you an incredible ceremonial grade matcha tea that you will not find anywhere else. Your box will also include a handmade bamboo whisk and teaspoon set that you will use in your tea ceremony.

    Other goodies:
To immerse yourself in Kyoto, your box also includes authentic sweet and savory Japanese snacks, a roundup of our favorite places to visit in Kyoto, curated Spotify playlist, key phrases, and a special gift -- furoshiki cloths from Musubi Kyoto.  Musubi (@furoshiki_musubi) is a Kyoto-based furoshiki studio that has been creating beautiful and unique prints since 1937. The cloth in your box is made from kimono fabric and designed by Kata Kata (@katakata.jp), and is perfect for picnics or wrapping gifts!

My family and I loved the recipes from the Hawaiin box! We had a Hawaiian night where we made them all. It was quite a feast!

I look Forword to the arrival each time. I would also love some of the previous boxes I missed. The Germany box had a great recipe and I gifted many of the items because I just liked the cooking experience. This Hawaii box had some interesting finds but the recipe doesn’t interest me. I’ll follow along but no plans on eating. I make the meal with my teenage daughter and the videos have become more streamline. I’m not sure if there is a skip a month option but I do subscribe. We truly look Forword to upcoming adventures.

Beautifully Curated and No Detail Overlooked

I received Trove as a birthday gift because I am known for my love of cooking, baking and traveling. That said, I have a limited flavor palete so it did take me several months before selecting a box. Once I did, and received the box, I was blown away by the personal touches by Emilie and Erika. I believe in first impressions, and even the box itself was lovely. Everything was well packaged and nothing came damaged. The local treats are huge delight and I love that there was a craft included in my box. Additionally, there was a note from the Emilie and Erika, a guide to what was in the box and a detailed out recipe card for each item we made. I really felt like I was transported to Germany for a night. I had a question regarding the cooking class and reached out to the owners via Instagram. They were quick to respond and personable in their reply. The online cooking lesson was fairly easy to follow along. Since I watched it after it went live, I was able to pause, fast forward and stop as needed. For me, I found this to better than live so we could take our time and make sure everything wad measured out correctly. I did miss out on the interaction with everyone, however. I would highly recommend, and already have. this experience to anyone. It's truly one of the best!
